Project Profile for Consultancy Services for Relocation of HIDD Comms for the Bahrain CAA

  • Location: East Hidd Airport, Bahrain
  • Client: Ministry of Housing of the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain
  • Project: Consulting services for communications project
  • Contract Award Year: 2013

This was a Consultancy services contract by the Ministry of Housing of the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain, for the relocation of the CAA’s (Civil Aviation Authority) receiver and transmitter station at East Hidd Airport.

Prior to the project the Bahrain CAA Hidd radio was located to the south-east of the Bahrain International Airport. This land had been identified for re-development for housing, which presented a requirement to relocate the facility. The opportunity was then taken to replace all systems, incorporating transmitters and receivers; the new facility provided separate transmitter and receiver sites.

Systems Interface was assigned to design a communications infrastructure of an end-to-end digital solution, based on Eurocae ED137 requirements.

The project also included a replacement for the VCCS which was installed in the same timeframe as the ED137 compliant VoIP interfacing radios. A new Emergency radio system formed part of the requirement, consisting of an Emergency VCCS
and Emergency radios and antennas.

Bahrain has a large volume of airspace within its FIR, with the North-West and South-East sectors being at extreme range for conventional VHF airband system design. Coverage to all areas within the FIR met ICAO field strength recommendations was a requirement of the design solution.
