Systems Interface Ltd. (SIL) is a Global ATM Systems Integrator located in Bordon, Hampshire in the United Kingdom. SIL was established in 1982 as a consulting engineering company providing services to UK airports. In 1999 SIL diversified its portfolio by offering full Air Traffic Control (ATC) capabilities encompassing the delivery of turnkey solutions in the domains of communication, navigation, meteorology, ATC towers and design consultancy.
In March 2014 SIL became a UK-based member of the Frequentis Group of companies, following the acquisition of a controlling shareholding by Frequentis AG. In March 2024, Frequentis AG acquired the remaining shares of the company, obtaining 100% ownership of Systems Interface. Frequentis is a leading and fast-growing ATC and control room specialist, that in 2023 generated revenues in excess of EUR400m.

EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT
MANAGING DIRECTOR - Michael Garrod
Mike joined Frequentis & Systems Interface as Managing Director in July 2024. He has significant experience in the aerospace and defence environment, having previously served as Managing Director for MKC Training, a role he assumed in September 2019. Prior to this, he had a 16-year career at QinetiQ. Mike has worked across several business areas in Engineering, Programme Management and Business Leadership. His roles have included work on robust global navigation systems, secure communications, mission data for military platforms and systems, electronic warfare and training.
OPERATIONS DIRECTOR - Paul Gurney
Paul’s career in the aviation business spans some 35 years. He has a wealth of experience in project management and the installation of large Turnkey projects worldwide, including the Supply and Installation of Navigational Aids, Airfield Lighting and Integrated Control Tower Systems. Paul joined Systems Interface in January 1999 as Operations Director from Trace Worldwide Limited (formerly Hunting Aviation Limited) where he was Chief Project Manager responsible for the running of the Airport Engineering Division managing a wide range of aviation related projects.
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR - Phillip Heaney
Phil joined Systems Interface in 2004 following 16 years with NATS. Phil specialises in Navaids and Comms and also has wide experience in control tower, surveillance, data comms and remote/virtual tower systems. Phil is the technical lead at Systems Interface providing strategic direction and project delivery support. Additionally, Phil holds a wide range of consultancy capabilities, a growing area in Systems Interface’s portfolio of services.
COMMERCIAL & PROJECTS DIRECTOR - Emma Tappenden
Emma joined Systems Interface in 2008 and is an experienced Prince 2 Registered Practitioner with vast experience managing ATC & ATM projects worldwide and leads a strong professional Project team. Responsibilities include cost control and reporting, schedule planning and control, customer liaison, risk analysis and all commercial issues in relation to contracts and administration of the company. Emma achieved a BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Business Management and now in her Commercial Director role, helps to develop and implement commercial strategies to accelerate growth whilst understanding the requirements of existing customers to ensure their needs are being met.
DIRECTOR OF SALES & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT - David Chandler
David has enjoyed a broad career in Air Traffic Management. Utilising his engineering background, he initially worked as an installation and commissioning engineer before moving into a systems engineering role. This led to positions in sales, marketing, and business development at Park Air Systems. David was then appointed Sales Director, where he generated substantial year-on-year growth. After leaving Park Air, he pursued several overseas ATM consulting roles. David joined Systems Interface in 2021.
